A network and internet bandwidth monitoring tool that lists all active connections to the internet and tracks usage across applications.
Features: NBMonitor monitors your network connection constantly, and therefore gives a constant view of the network bandwidth usage originating at your computer. This works at several levels. First and foremost, it enables you to track instantaneous as well as average (long-term) bandwidth usage, so that you can compare this with the amount that you are billed for by an ISP. To this end it also allows for instantaneous visualization of network usage in graphical form. The amount of uploading and downloading activity is available separately. Additionally, all network connections originating at your computer are monitored and logged. This includes connections initiated not only by programs but also individual processes. It can also provide statistical information pertaining to each individual connection or pertaining to each individual IP address pair. Filters can be set to capture only specific data that you as a user are interested in. For example one may be curious to see if files are downloaded from a particular website. All the monitoring information which is collected in logs can be used to generate reports, on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. The logs can also be exported to XML format files.
Overall: NBMonitor works as advertised, but sadly it does nothing further. For example a feature to stop or block the connection by an unwanted program or process should have been included, and would have added to the product’s utility greatly. In many cases, a given problem program/process is hard to locate and remove for the average user (they may not even show up in the add/remove programs list) and such a capability would therefore have been handy.
